Woodland Hills School District will begin transitioning to virtual instruction for all students. We will begin online instruction on Tuesday April 14th. Our actions are consistent with the recommendations of leading health officials on how to limit the spread of COVID-19 and are also consistent with similar decisions made by a number of our peer institutions.

WHIS Literacy Program with Tommy Orange

There There

On Monday, February 10th, students in Michael Beckett's 10th grade ELA course held their culminating activity at the Carnegie Lecture Hall for their immersive unit into Tommy Orange's Pulitzer Prize finalist novel There There.  Through a partnership with Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures,  WHHS was provided copies of the critically-renowned novel,  and through readings and discussions the students were introduced to a contemporary masterpiece.   The students were able to hear the author speak and respond to their questions about the novel.

Since 2016, the Woodland Hills Interaction Series has provided immersive literacy programs to our students.  These projects have included Pulitzer Prize winners Jennifer Egan and Elizabeth Strout,  and best-selling authors Tayari Jones, and Valeria Luiselli.

Thank you to Mr. Beckett, library/media specialist Kevin McGuire, literacy coach Christyn Coles, and Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures for providing an amazing opportunity for our students.
