Native Plant Nurturers

Mrs. Frederick’s kindergarten and Ms. Walter’s first graders concluded their native plants gardening unit with a field trip to Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve. The classes took a hike through a meadow, forest, and pond habitat, stopping to observe plants, animals, and bugs along the way.  The children were particularly excited about getting to see the pond teeming with tadpoles, a Canadian goose sitting on her nest, and a bat house.

Hatching Ducks

Happy Hatching!

Mrs. Frederick’s kindergartners and Ms. Walter’s first graders hatched five ducklings to conclude an extensive unit on animals that hatch.  The children spent the 28 days of the incubation process reading about animals that hatch and completing various writing and art projects in preparation for the ducklings’ arrival.  The children were excited to see the ducklings emerge from their shells.  We kept them at school long enough to enjoy watching them take their first swim in our baby pool “pond.”
