Family Fit Night

The Woodland Hills Intermediate Wellness Committee hosted its first annual Family Fitness Night.  Woodland Hills Intermediate families enjoyed a night of swimming, yoga, zumba, and basketball.  Participants were able to make their own delicious snacks, crafts, and get important health information from local organizations.  The new circuit training room was open and Wii Stations were up and running.  Mars our favorite therapy dog was even there!.

4th Grade Huichol Yarn Art

Fourth Grade is working hard to prepare for the WHI Cultural Awareness Night.  Their country of focus is Mexico.  Huichol “yarn art” is yarn pressed into boards coated with wax and resin. These intricate projects are derived from ceremonial tablets called nerika.

5th Grade Biographies in a Box

Fifth grade students at WHI chose a famous African-American to study back in February. They had to research and write summaries in the areas of childhood, accomplishments, influence, interesting facts, etc.  Students then created a "Biography in a Box," using pizza boxes.

Children's Choice after school club members collected trash around the Intermediate School.  The group had just finished reading "Slacker" by Gordon Korman in which the formerly lazy main character creates a community service club at his school.

WHI STEM Stars WHI STEM Stars Visit the Science Center

WHI STEM Stars had a fabulous time at Carnegie Science Center's SciTech Days field trip earlier this month. They explored the physics of motion at SportsWorks, learned How our Dinner Plates Can Change the World, walked through the submarine USS Requin, learned from local STEM businesses and nonprofits, and tried out the hands-on exhibits.
