Pittsburgh Festival Opera Field Trip

WHI 4th graders attended the Pittsburgh Festival Opera’a production of Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears at Arsenal Middle School Theatre on Wednesday, March 7th. The students were treated to a 45 minute performance featuring the music of Mozart and Offenbach. Following the production, they had an opportunity to question the performers and opera staff.

Millionaire Book Club 2018

WHSD Elementary students celebrated reading at the first meeting of the 2018 Millionaire Book Club.  Kindergarten through sixth grade students are challenged to read a million words over the course of the next three months.  Parents and children enjoyed games, refreshments, and “make-it take-it”  activities.  Each participant also received a book courtesy of the Millionaire Book Club.

UNO's Community Based Learning

Mr. Wilson, Ms. Estatico, and Mrs. Furman classrooms traveled to the Waterfront on a Community Based Learning Field Trip. They visited UNO’S Pizzeria and Grill to learn how a restaurant is operated, restaurant etiquette, and made their own Pizza. We then traveled to the Alleghany Intermediate Unit 3 where the students were able to spend time with employees in AV/tech, production/mail, and building/grounds to learn about their roles and job duties. Our students loved the time they spent in our community.

Penguins Penguins Open Practice

Woodland Hills Elementary students were rewarded with a trip to PPG Paints Arena for The Pittsburgh Penguins Open Hockey Practice.  More than 200 WHSD students enjoyed watching the Penguins demonstrate their skills.  These deserving students were recognized for perfect attendance, excellent behavior, and demonstrating what it means to be a Wolverine!

Mia Curler Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassador Mia Curler

The Woodland Hills Intermediate School would like to congratulate Mia Curler on becoming the First Student Ambassador at our school for the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 Program.  Mia has achieved this status by earning 30,000 Points on FuelUpToPlay60.com. Mia reported her healthy eating and physical activity accomplishments on the Student Dashboard. Fuel Up to Play 60 has effectively helped Woodland Hills Intermediate Students make healthy, sustainable changes in our school and community.   Way to go Mia we are so proud of you!
