Welcome to Mr. Streitman's Class
2012-2013 School Year

Weekly vocabulary and spelling can be viewed by clicking the "Spelling and Vocabulary" link to the left.  I will keep these materials updated on a regular basis, so students can be looking ahead to the next week's lessons.

About Me

I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in special education. I continued my education by obtaining my graduate degree in elementary education from The University of Pittsburgh, 2009.

Previously,
I completed five years of service as a learning support teacher in the primary grades at the Apollo Ridge School District, and I completed one year of service as a learning support teacher for the intermediate grades here at Edgewood Elementary.  I am thrilled to be completing my 8th year of teaching at Edgewood as the emotional support teacher for the primary grades.

My interests include French and Indian War history reenacting, the study of French language and culture, and traveling.

Our Curriculum

Here in the emotional support classroom we provide a structured learning environment where students can receive a more individualized approach to learning.  Also, we will be focusing on life applicable social skills such as appropriate interactions with others and teamwork.

Throughout the year, we will be focusing on lots of basic skills in the areas of language arts, reading, and math.  Further, I will be highly stressing skills in following directions and student organization.  By using effective methods and research based strategies, I hope to see all of the students strive to reach their individual goals.

Expectations

Students will….
-be prepared for class (on time, seated, homework, assignment book, and folder).
-raise hand to leave seat or ask questions.
-have eyes on teacher when he or she is speaking.
-show respect for adults and peers.
-try their best everyday, and complete all assignments.

Classroom Store

We have a class wide token economy, which consists of the classroom store.  Students may earn tickets, which will be stored in their student banks.  Shopping opportunities will be scheduled daily to reward super students who have followed the classroom expectations.

The best ways to reach me are through email at
streja@whsd.net or by calling the Edgewood Elementary main office at 412.731.2238, where the secretarial staff will gladly take a message for me.  I try to return all emails and phone calls within 24 hours of their receipt.
