Activity: Basketball unit

 

Objective:

To learn the elements of catching, bouncing, passing and dribbling

To learn the basic rules of the game.

To review and reinforce skills previously learned

To make the student more confident in basketball handling skills

To promote enjoyable regular physical activity.

To provide comprehensive physical fitness and activity assessments and reporting programs for students.

To develop affective, cognitive and behavioral components related to physical activity.

To have the student know that regular physical activity contributes to good health, function and well-being and is important throughout a person’s lifetime.

Lesson 1- Skills 

Dribbling technique

                   Teacher explanation and demonstration

                   Students will demonstrate a series of ball control drills 

                     Health/P.E standard 10.3.3, 10.4.3, 10.3.6, 10.4.6

  • Dribble ball around the body without moving the feet
  • Left handed/right handed

  • Scooter Basketball

Activity:

Students will take part in a series of skill evaluation exercises.  Students will travel from station to station performing the skill at each station. Health/P.E standard 10.3.3, 10.4.3, 10.3.6, 10.4.6

Chest pass for distance and accuracy
