- What is an array?
An array is another strategy and visual tool for students who are first learning about multiplication. Arrays assist students as they make connections between skip counting, repeated addition, and multiplication. Arrays also lead students into a basic understanding of area.
- How does lattice multiplication work with decimal numbers?
Lattice is a favorite among students when multiplying decimals. Lattice eliminates a lot of place value struggles. Try it, you may be a convert!
- What is this lattice multiplication?
Lattice multiplication helps students understand how place values line up when multiplying multi-digit numbers. Lattice is a great strategy for students who are just learning this skill or for students who struggle with the traditional strategy- many students forget those zeros as they move to different place values.
- What is a number bond?
A number bond shows the numbers that came together in order to create a whole. This could be two or more numbers.
- What is a tape diagram (multiplication and division)?
This is a variation of the addition and subtraction tape diagram. This is another way to show repeated addition- it provides an alternative strategy for solving multiplication and division problems.
