Scholastic Poster Contest Winners Scholastic Poster Contest Winners

A poster contest was held during the Scholastic Book Fair from 2/26 - 3/5/18.  The PAWSatively Hilarious Poster Contest fueled creativity and humor by students designing an original poster that integrates reading, our animal friends, and a lot of laughs!  Our Academy art teachers selected the winners.  A Bingo Reading Challenge was also held.  Click READ MORE link to see winners and photos.

Academy Students Take Top Honors in Fairchild Challenges 3 and 4 at Phipps Fairchild Winners

Congratulations to the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students from the Woodland Hills Academy who participated in Fairchild Challenges 3 and 4 at Phipps.  They took first place in challenge 3 and second place in challenge 4. 

Woodland Hills Students Excel at 2018 K'Nex STEM Design Challenge Winners

Congratulations to all of the Woodland Hills 5th-8th grade students that competed in the 2018 K'Nex STEM Design Challenge at Duquesne University on Wednesday, March 7.  The creativity of our students shined in their design of environmentally friendly products for the home!  Special congratulations go to the following Woodland Hills Academy teams who received esteemed recognition from the judges (click READ MORE for the list):

WTAE's Mike Harvey Visit Mike Harvey Visit

WTAE's meteorologist Mike Harvey and Carnegie Science Center visite Academy students from K-4 on Wednesday, March 7.  CLICK HERE to view the footage of the news Academy students appeared on that evening.

Millionaire Book Club 2018

WHSD Elementary students celebrated reading at the first meeting of the 2018 Millionaire Book Club.  Kindergarten through sixth grade students are challenged to read a million words over the course of the next three months.  Parents and children enjoyed games, refreshments, and “make-it take-it”  activities.  Each participant also received a book courtesy of the Millionaire Book Club.


Congratulations Wolverine Spirit Award Winners! Academy Wolverine Spirit Winners 2018

Congratulations to Troy Akins and Lauren Huck, the Wolverine Spirit Award Winners from the Academy.  Troy is a fifth-grade student and was nominated by his teacher, Mrs. O'Leary.  Lauren is a seventh-grade student and was nominated by Mrs. Armstrong.  Congratulations on a job well done!  Click READ MORE to see additional pictures.

Parents in the Know Training

Communities in Schools is partnering with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) to promote child safety and prevent child sexual abuse.  Members of the Districts PTO as well as parents and adults caring for children in the community are invited to the training to be held at the Woodland Hills Administration Building.  CLICK HERE to view additional information.

Woodland Hills Students Attend Pens Practice Pens

On Monday, February 5, Woodland Hills students from thoughout the district attended the Pittsburgh Penguins Open Practice. This event was a reward for students based on their good behavior and grades. Students in 7th grade also wrote an essay about why they wanted to experience the Open Practice.

WHHS Again A Bronze Medalist by U.S. News & World Report Bronze 17

Congratulations to Woodland Hills High School on earning their fourth straight Bronze Medal by U.S. News & World Report.

The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. Other local Bronze Medal schools include Gateway and Kiski Area.
